Iris 50 Hand Bearing Compass
While the ship's compass is used, primarily, to determine the direction in which the boat is heading, hand bearing compasses are used to take bearings on various objects or landmarks in the vicinity of the vessel.
These bearings can then be used to extrapolate your position. Additionally, they can be used to determine the relative position of other boats during racing, or for collision avoidance.
