What users say
"I can't begin to tell you how happy I am with the new sail you made for us. Sara helped us with our sail order. Her help with the sail design and color options were, in my opinion, what set you guys apart form the other suppliers out there. Your original delivery date was three days after Christmas. I told Sara this was a Christmas present from my brother and with her help, the sail was at my house with time to spare. Thanks you, for an excellent product, as well as prompt and courteous service."

Sails for small boats

Smaller boats don't mean lesser sails!

CatalinaOwners.com offers a full selection of cross-cut mains and genoas designed for performance and reliability.

Sails are equally dependent on three factors; design, construction, and materials.

Our small sails are designed using ProSail software, originally developed in New Zealand for America's Cup boats. The program generates your sail in three dimensions and translates the data into panel models with specific construction detail.

Once the final design is set, the data is loaded into a dual-wheel plotter/cutter. A tabletop device with a rotating tungsten-carbide blade, the computer-driven arm cuts each of the sail's individual panels and patches within half a millimeter of accuracy before the panels are assembled by experienced US craftsmen.

Each sail is made from high-quality Dacron cloth manufactured by Challenge Sailcloth. Founded in 1986, Challenge Sailcloth now has the largest line of woven sailcloths in the world. Its designers focus their energies on bringing new concepts in racing and cruising woven sailcloths. Challenge re-engineers many lines every year, taking advantage of the newest yarns, chemicals, finishes, and equipment. Challenge is the only one of the top three U.S. sailcloth makers to process all its woven sailcloth in the U.S. The manufacturing management team is superb, and involved to the lowest level of detail with every machine.

Construction receives the same careful attention to detail. Every seam is glued and double- or three-step seamed with durable, ultraviolet resistant thread to maximize the sail's long-term durability. Corners are reinforced with multiple layers of fabric in broad squares to amplify the sail's stretch resistance and durability at the points of maximum load, and embedded corner rings or grommets provide strong attachment points for the spars.

Our experienced craftsmen attach the hardware to the sail by hand as they have for more than fifteen years, to ensure maximum durability, performance, and enjoyment.

These are not sails from some loft that would rather outfit 50-footers! They're designed and built for smaller boats from beginning to end, providing you with a better sail, and better service, than many local lofts can provide.
