Pedestal idlers mount at the bottom of the steering pedestal, and turn the steering cables toward the rudder post.Edsons Adjustable Idler is designed for boats having the quadrant on the forward side of the rudderpost, and the pedestal either forward or aft of the rudderpost.
They can be used for Radial Drive Steering Systems when the pedestal is located aft of the rudderpost.

These idlers feature anodized aluminum bases, stainless uprights, anodized aluminum sheaves and sheave guards.
A Heavy Duty Racing/Cruising version (Model 883) with solid bronze base is also available by special order for boats with higher rudder loads.

Adjustable sheave angle feature means you don't have to mount the idler sheaves perfectly aligned with the cable. You can allow them to self-align after installation to reduce the risk of chaffing. Don't forget to tighten down the uprights after you have the sheave angles adjusted.
Needle bearings are an available option in some models, by special order. They provide lower friction than the standard oil-impregnated bronze bearings for long or complex cable runs.
